Following its screening at the Rome Film Festival, the documentary film will be shown in a preview screening at MAST.Auditorium.
Between 2023 and 2025, wildfires devastated almost 5 million hectares of land in British Columbia, Canada. Through the testimonies of Indigenous peoples, the voices of forests and the accounts of those who experienced the environmental disaster, the documentary invites us to rediscover the ancient connection between human beings and nature, highlighting the urgent need to care for the environment and preserve memory.
The sounds of the film, bearing witness to the ancestral presence of the trees and forests, interweave with the poetic presence of those who continue to defend the environment. The testimonies of those who lived through the disaster in Lytton, destroyed by fire in 2021, join the pain of Indigenous communities whose lands, rights and cultural identities were taken from them.
The film was made possible thanks to the generosity and participation of witnesses and members of Indigenous communities, including the Squamish Nation, the Líl’wat Nation and the St’át’imc Nation.
The screening will be introduced by Daniele Del Pozzo, Bologna City Council’s Councillor for Culture, and by the directors Francesco Conversano and Nene Grignaffini, with the participation of two of the film’s protagonists, Xwalacktun (Rick Harry) and Là Lu (Kathleen Robin Smith). Screened in English with Italian subtitles.
Since 1980, with their production company Movie Movie, they have made dozens of documentary films on the epochal changes in the world we live in. In 2006 they won the David di Donatello for best Italian feature-length documentary with Il bravo gatto prende i topi.
“Getting to know the indigenous populations of British Columbia in Canada was an extraordinary spiritual experience. We hope that this film will become a testimonial to raise awareness in the younger generations to improve the future of the world and the environment we live in.”

6.30 pmCriminologists Adolfo Ceretti and Roberto Cornelli ask whether peace is still conceivable, and under what conditions. For the authors it is neither a naïve utopia nor a mere armistice, but a process of recognising limits: of force, power, hatred and the claim to absolute truth.
