Eleven exhibitions on the home
Since 2013, every two years, Fondazione MAST has brought the photography of industry and work into the palazzi, museums and venues of central Bologna, free of charge. The seventh edition is devoted to the theme of the home.
Ten exhibitions in seven venues across the historic centre, from 7 November to 14 December 2025, under the artistic direction of Francesco Zanot. The eleventh, Living, Working, Surviving by Jeff Wall, curated by Urs Stahel, ran in the MAST.Galleries until 8 March 2026.
Together the exhibitions form a visual chronology of the home from the early twentieth century to the present: emerging artists and leading international figures, more than a century of work and places from every part of the world.
The exhibitions by Forensic Architecture and Moira Ricci were extended until 11 January 2026.
The villages on both banks of the river Prut, a natural border of the new political Europe since 2007: a project begun in 2011 and still ongoing. Observing daily life along the river, which is home to him, the artist tells fifty years of political, economic and ecological history.
Thirteen years of research on the suburbanisation that has transformed Monterrey, Mexico. Posing as a guide to buying a home, the artist questions the rhetoric of homeownership as a guarantee of wellbeing and stability.
Recent projects by the research agency based at Goldsmiths, University of London, on exile and the loss of home: the continuities between the Nakba of 1947–1949 and today’s forced displacement, through mapping, testimony and reconstruction. Curated by Elizabeth Breiner and Shourideh Molavi with Francesco Zanot. Extended until 11 January 2026.
The Gerlitzgründe estate in Graz, one of Austria’s first experiments in participatory social housing, designed in the 1970s by Eilfried Huth together with its future residents: photographs, a film, period images and an original model.
The title comes from a game played in South African townships: a dolls’ house built from whatever is to hand. The artist cuts out his childhood photographs and sets them in colourful scenes, between document and fiction.
Domestic labour, between family stories and questions of class, gender and employment: the home celebrated in order to reveal the invisible work behind it and the experience of women whose work, inside and outside the home, often goes unrecognised.
Two houses by Bruno Mathsson in Värnamo, southern Sweden, photographed between 2000 and 2006. Rather than the perfection of the design, the images show the fragility of the buildings and the way they bear the passing of time.
The artist’s first retrospective: twenty-five years of work seen through the home, a container of memories and the heart of a region, the Maremma, where private life and community are intertwined. Extended until 11 January 2026.
Six series made between the 1960s and the early 2000s in the Netherlands, Georgia, Russia, Turkey, Iraq and Indonesia: dwellings of natural materials destined to dissolve and structures built to last for centuries.
The Montecatini chemical plant and company village at Sinigo, near Merano, photographed by a self-taught worker-photographer between 1935 and 1950: more than six hundred images projected at five stations. Curated by Alessandro Campaner and Stefano Riba.
Twenty-eight works, lightboxes and large-format colour and black-and-white prints made between 1980 and 2021. In the MAST.Galleries from 7 November 2025 to 8 March 2026. Curated by Urs Stahel.
Seven venues in the historic centre of Bologna, open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm (MAMbo with its own hours), and the MAST.Galleries at Via Speranza 42.
