The figure of the maestro is central to the work of Bernd and Hilla Becher, as the artists of the Düsseldorf School show. With Sguardi maestri, Fondazione MAST offers tours of the exhibition led by professionals from fields deeply influenced by the Bechers’ teaching, who read it from fresh perspectives.
Visitors build a direct relationship both with the “maestro” accompanying them through the exhibition and with the works, revealed in their most specific and unexpected aspects. The tour ends with a drink at MAST.Caffetteria.
On Thursday 18 June the tour was led by Carlo Valsecchi.
Born in Brescia in 1965, he is one of the most interesting Italian photographic artists. His work, strictly analogue and centred on the view camera, begins with an analysis of space to explore industrial sites and vast landscapes, observed as places where meaning is transformed.
5 pmProfessionals shaped by the Bechers’ teaching guide visitors through the exhibition from new perspectives. Massimo Bartolini lives and works in Cecina, teaches at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna and showed Due qui / To Hear at the Italian Pavilion of the 2024 Venice Biennale.
